Come autumn and winter, we ladies tend to ease up on the old fake tan, and I don’t blame us. Not one little bit. We’re not sporting short frocks on a daily basis, and a super-bronzed bod looks kind of, well, out of place on a gloomy cold day, doesn’t it?
But guess what? The legends at St Tropez have come up with the perfect solution for those still looking for a slightly bronzed body in the cooler months; one that glows and shimmers and looks ridiculously healthy.
It’s called The Pastel Tan.
With an intention of enhancing paler, English Rose-like complexions, The Pastel Tan involves evening out the skin with a light layer of fake tan – be it a cream or mousse – then highlighting the body once the tan has developed. Incorporating the soft pastel hues of St Tropez Skin Illuminator in Rose and Violet, these stunning illuminators are mixed together and then applied to the high planes of the face and body (think cheekbones, brow bones and collarbones).

The idea that tanning isn’t complete after you’ve simply applied your faux formula is a brilliant one. Enhancing the skin using cream or powdered highlighters in any hue post-tan (read: pastel, gold or bronze) ensures your face and body look not only slightly bronzed, but radiant and dewy too.
bh’s Carli and I recently spent an afternoon with St Tropez’s International Tanner Abbi Hollins and her notes on skin finishing truly blew us away, so we definitely suggest you try out this technique in the very near future. And yes, that is us on the right looking mighty glowy in our TANFAN dresses post-spray tan. If you haven’t heard of these tan-friendly frocks before, they help to ensure your faux bronze stays steak-free, and the fact they’re made out of 100% cotton means any tanning product washes out super-easily. Genius, right? They also look rather stylish, which is an added bonus.
Final handy hint: apply illuminator on your décolletage and down the centre of your arms too for a stunning red carpet-worthy glow.
