I felt the need to share with you all my innately deep love for an oil that I thought was going to just be a fad. A fad that was, until I brought it in to my life and realised I was going to be having an ongoing, profoundly involved relationship with it for probably the rest of my life. What is this oil you ask: Bio Oil of course!
I used to live in Austria, and I would frequently fly to different countries on my weekends and during semester break. On my trip to Wicklow in Ireland, a picturesque National Park where they filmed the movie PS I love you, I broke out in a rather itchy, stress/sun burn/too-many-aeroplanes-in-one-month rash. Having flown to four countries that month, my skin had taken a beating from the artificial air on the planes, climatic changes and had become rather aggressive. So, it was not alarming that some this had resulted in some insanely bad timed rash.
Rushing to the closest chemist in the tiny town, I perused the shelves for something that would ease my dryness, soothe my itch, nourish my skin and not perpetuate the soreness that came with the constant change in temperature. All they had on the shelf that I knew I wouldn’t react to was Bio Oil – so I took my chances, bought a 200ml version, and begun slathering it all over my body.
As if by some act of a Fairy Godmother, the next day I awoke to find a glowing goddess staring back at me in the mirror. My itchy, dry, scarlet skin was gone, and was replaced with smooth, supple and seriously touchable skin. The inflammation was nowhere to be seen and the skin on my face read, ‘I have spent 2 weeks at a Yoga retreat’, as opposed to, ‘I was just attacked by some weird Bubonic-stress plague’.
So, you could say that Ireland was an almost epiphany of sorts for me. I came to the realisation that I will not only be using Bio Oil on my stretch marks and colony of scars, but it will be used on my face, my body, my feet: anywhere that has a dermis. And I have: every day since – and there is definitely no looking back. It is my skin saviour, my sanity-giver, my own personal lifeline. It has become a part of my skin story.
