Good morning, sunshine! And a very Happy New Year to you.
Are you feeling a little dusty right now? Like maybe the glare of your computer/phone screen is just a little too much for your sore head and bleary eyes to handle?
Ahhhh, I know the feeling all too well. And I know that all you want to do right now is to curl up into a tiny little ball and not move for the next 24-48 hours (with the exception of getting up to get a massive burger and fries, of course.)
But the only way you’ll get out of your post-New Year’s rut is if you try and feel human again. And here are four easy things you can do:
POST-NEW YEAR’S FIX #1: TAKE A LONG, STEAMY SHOWER
There’s nothing better than getting into the shower and scrubbing yourself clean from head-to-toe after a big night out. The steam of the shower combined with the scent of a refreshing and an invigorating shower gel will wake you right up.
Try Palmolive Invigorating Shower Gel with Pomegranate and Mango to give yourself an extra pep in your step (and give your skin it’s daily dose of hydration.) For something more on the relaxing and uplifting side, try Lux Indulge Body Wash. The combo of extracts of neroli and ylang ylang will leave you feeling wonderful.
Extra tip: if you’re washing your hair, leave it to dry on it’s own. Your cold, wet hair will actually be quite refreshing on the back of your neck.
POST-NEW YEAR’S FIX #2: ADD LIFE BACK TO YOUR SKIN
A long night, a few too many drinks, and very little sleep will leave your skin looking a little dull and lacklustre. And if you don’t look like your usual radiant self, then you’re not going to feel it. The solution? Fake it ‘til you feel it.
Apply some Garnier Youthful Radiance Caffeine Eye Roll-On under your eyes. The cooling rollerball will feel great, while the formula will help brighten your under-eye area. Plus, the caffeine will help energise your skin and leave it looking less tired. You can also apply Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator on your skin to add luminosity and radiance.
POST-NEW YEAR’S FIX #3: PAINT YOUR NAILS
Giving your nails a fresh coat of paint will get you through your New Year’s Day slump for two reasons:
1) Replacing the chipped mess that currently resides on your nails with a fresh colour will make you feel like you’ve truly left 2013 behind.
2) If you’re busy painting your nails, you’re less likely to fall asleep and be a hungover mess.
My tip for a New Year’s Day mani? Try a glossy, bright and vibrant pink, like the new Gwen Stefani by OPI in Hey Baby or piCture pOlish in Hot Lips.
POST-NEW YEAR’S FIX #4: TAKE IT EASY
You’re tired from a big night out, there’s no dancing around it or pretending like it’s not happening. And you don’t have to be a martyr and do all you can to stay awake and active. Embrace the state you’re in, get comfy on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and whack on Mean Girls or The Notebook. You can start on being a real, proper 2014-ready human tomorrow.
How are you feeling today? Have you tried any of these tricks to help you after a big night?
