Awards season is in full swing, bringing with it a whole new wave of beauty trends and must-haves, from Jessica Chastain’s favourite lipstick to the revival of the ’80s-style blowout. And trust glam queen JLo to be pioneering 2023’s hottest nail trend: lip gloss nails.
Chances are this glossy, minimalist manicure has already taken over your Instagram feed. And we’re here to break it down for you so you can recreate JLo’s new signature look for yourself.
What are lip gloss nails?
Think of lip gloss nails as a ‘your nails but better’ aesthetic. And don’t worry — there are no sticky fingers involved. Just like lip gloss adds shine and a sheer tint to your pout, this manicure trend is all about natural hues and an ultra-shiny finish.
Your natural nails are the feature of this look, so a sheer polish is essential — think pink, nude and peachy tones. Of course, you can add a little something extra like diamantes or a micro French tip, but the whole point of lip gloss nails is to keep it as minimalist as possible.

7 lip gloss nails ideas
#1 The bare minimum
Keep it simple and stick to a barely-there polish with a high-gloss finish. In the process of growing out your natural nails? A tinted nail strengthener will be your best friend.
#2 Glazed and glossy
For something a little more eye-catching, opt for a subtle pearlescent polish to make your nails pop.
#3 A spot of pink
Want something a little extra but still simple and easy to create? Try adding some dot art in a pink or neutral polish near the bed of your nail.
#4 Lip gloss and diamonds
JLo’s swoon-worthy Grammys manicure is everything. Micro diamantes are the perfect way to add some pizazz to your mani without going OTT.
#5 Barbie nails
We love a bit of sparkle and a glittery pink polish will add a statement finish to a simple, sheer mani.
#6 Queen of hearts
Why not try heart nails to match your heart eyes this Valentine’s Day? These micro hearts are so easy to recreate. Start with a glossy pink base and use the tip of a makeup brush or bobby pin to make three dots in an upside-down triangle, then join them together and voila – the perfect heart nail art.
#7 A touch of sparkle
Jazz up the infamous ‘Bubble Bath’ manicure by adding a crystal to each nail. Remember that these are easy to knock off, so be sure to use good nail glue and finish with a thick glossy topcoat.

Would you try the lip gloss nail trend? Which is your favourite look?
I don’t do anything to decorate my nails but these examples do look pretty
Some beautiful Nails love the various pink shades just wished that I could get my Nails to grow, have tried Serums and special Nail Polishes but unfortunately nail polish even clear nail polish doesn’t stay on my nails very long, due to housework and washing up.
You sound like me -We should both wear gloves and I always mean too but don’t
Wearing gloves is really important if you want your nail polish to last. I wear Ansell rubber gloves when washing dishes and for cleaning I use the blue Nitrile disposable gloves because it is more resistant to bleach and other harsh chemicals. A pack of 75 lasts a long time because I reuse the disposable gloves until they tear or get a hole in them.
I’ve found that adding a couple of drops of Jojoba to my cuticle oil bottle also helps with my nail growth.
I always stick with the bare minimum – just natural glossy nails.
I’m a maximalist, not a minimalist, haha!
Lol 👏🏼👏🏼
Lip gloss nails have always been my favourite although until now I didn’t know they had a name.
They look lovely and it is a good name
Love these types of nail! Minimal and chic
*Nails
Loving the nude, natural look. Mine would probably chip straight away though!
Oh, they look so pretty. Queen of Hearts is a winner.
I would wear each one of these looks. My favourite is J-Lo’s.
Can’t be bothered doing anything with my nails.
I don’t bother painting my nails
I would give some of these a try and they look lovely, my favourite is #1.
I like something a bit more eye catching
Love this. Don’t like the embellishments though.
Agreed, its a bit over the top!
love these nails. pretty and simple.
This looks good on those models. Yet with such long slender fingers with beautifully shaped nails most things would look great.
Nothing new here. I was doing this for my nail clients back in the 90’s. Minimal is always classier than the slutty trampy Kardashian trends we keep seeing.
as long as they are well groomed, and these are, they look pretty
Very nice and for a special night out I do like A touch of sparkle
Funny name but they look nice
yes, it is a cute but strange name
Oohhhh I love these colours
I really like these – classy and subtle for the times you want or need to be conservative.
Love it all, glossy looks
Plain and simple for me as I work with special needs children adn fancy nails just would not work.
Looks like the nude nails that were popular years ago.. I still haven’t found the perfect nude for my skin tone
I like this look, especially when it has a touch of pale colour
I like this look, especially when it has a touch of pale colour or just plain
These designs are pretty but a bit too plain for me. Since I have lots of nail polish colours, I like creating manis that are more colourful and vibrant. I’ve used a bright orange fluorescent nail polish colour as a base for my current mani and coupled it with purple dots and a purple floral nail decal. Am able to do this now that my nails have finally grown. Geez, it took ages to grow but daily application of cuticle oil and nail massage is the key.
7, 3 and 1 I’d wear happily
I love this look. So simple but very effective. Will definitely try.
These nails look beautiful. I don’t remember i had this kind of nails ever.
I love all of the manicures, they look so classy
This has been my go-to nail look forever
I would definitely like to give this a try, i feel like that color doesn’t suit me. But i would like to give it another go
Look like variations of nude nails to me.
So pretty.
simple and effective
I love these looks. It’s a shame I’m too lazy to copy them.
Love the minimalist nail look.
I like 1 and 2; the less decoration, the better!
Maybe I’m getting old but the bare minimum appeals to me the most.
I like darker colors, but there are definitely times when simple is more appropriate.
Need to do a manicure badly
I prefer a bit more ‘pop’ with my nails.
An understated pretty look
I love this. So easy to follow.
