Introducing the SkinChecker campaign

Did you know one in 17 Australians are diagnosed with melanoma before the age of 85? I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a ridiculously high number.

The good news? 90 per cent of melanoma detected on time can be treated successfully, a stat that led La Roche-Posay to launch SkinChecker, a campaign encouraging the general public to spot signs of skin cancer.

Health campaigns don’t get much cuter than this one, with the brand using an adorable video of Dalmatian dogs checking their spots to send the message that we all need to check our skin – as well as that of our loved ones – regularly.

For a step-by-step guide on how to carry out a quick self-examination and monitor any changes in your moles, download the ABCDE method from La Roche-Posay’s website. Used by dermatologists worldwide, it’ll help you spot anything of concern (and ensure you consult a dermatologist ASAP).

As part of the SkinChecker campaign, Sydneysiders can take advantage of a free mole screening. Simply visit the Pitt Street Mall on Thursday 6 November, where a dermatologist from the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia will be on hand to assist.

Of course, we all know the first step in stopping skin cancer is prevention.  A good quality sunscreen is an absolute must, especially coming into summer. We love La Roche-Posay’s lightweight Anthelios XL Fluid Extreme SPF50+ which is non-greasy as well as non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t block your pores). For the body, we can’t go past Le Tan’s delicious smelling Coconut SPF 50+ Spray, which took out the ‘Best Sunscreen’ category in our Best in Beauty 2014 awards!

Do you do conduct regular skin checks? What other sunscreens do you like?
