In what might be the only guilt-free credit card swiping you’ll ever do, celebrity makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes has shared why your best weapon for soft skin doesn’t come from your bathroom cabinet — it comes from inside your wallet.
Forget dry body brushing, physical exfoliators, loofahs and pumice stones, if you want to rid your body of dead skin, try the “basic version of a skin scraper”: an old credit card.
Speaking to Net-a-Porter, the makeup artist labelled this unusual hack the “best body tip ever”. Essentially, Katie uses her credit card to “skim over [her] wet skin in the shower”.
“You don’t need to go very hard, but it’s amazing what comes off,” she said. So next time you’re about to cut your old credit card in half, spare it.
And that’s not the only genius tip Katie is privy to. Aside from her own wealth of knowledge, she’s also picked up plenty of advice from the A-listers she works with day in and day out.
Kate Bosworth taught her to keep a calm mind, passing on the advice: “If something you worry about will not matter in five years, then don’t worry about it for more than five minutes.” And from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Katie has learnt the power of a good blush. “The first time I worked with Rosie, I didn’t use any blush on her, but she asked for it and genuinely looked better because of it. Ever since then I’ve loved blush as it finishes a face in the best way”. Oh, to be a fly on the wall for these conversations.
But in the meantime, we’ll be putting our credit cards to work.

Have you ever heard of this exfoliating trick? Will you try it out?
Hmm, I’ve read some odd things while hanging out on this site but this one seems a little too strange. I have fibromyalgia so I would find the sensation of scraping my body with a credit card very uncomfortable. I’ll stick with my trusty skin brush or homemade scrubs.
Not something I would ever try.
My skin is quite itchy in this hot weather. I’ve noticed it’s a bit flakey. I might find an olde card to use.
Try a nice soft brush in the shower with shower gel and then moisturize after
So, anyone using her bathroom would see a credit card sitting there? That’s going to have people scratching their heads, haha!
I’ve got extremely tough skin, so I use a plastic pot scourer.
Interesting. I guess it’s worth a try.
nope. I like more acids in skincare to do its thing. Works.
I can’t see the sense in that.
I feel the same -it doesn’t appeal at all
I love a good soft brush which feels really nice -can’t see the benefit of a card
no i have never heard of and would much rather give my skin a brush
hmm the things you read on here are mind boggling. Will I try this? Still thinking 😛 I like what I use now so maybe not.
Yeah I’m not doing that
I’m happy with my exfoliating gloves that I use in the shower
Why would someone even think to do that in the first place?!
Very budget conscious but i dont believe for a minute Rosie would do this often
Love that Don’t Worry tip!!
God no. Gross!
Wow 😳 never thought about using a Credit Card to Exfoliate my Skin, will try it next time I get a new one. nd from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, does look good with Blush.
Id definitely like to try this new exfoliating trick
Do they wash it first? It would not be very clean
sounds yukky to me
I’d worry about damaging my credit card. I only have one & I don’t want to damage it. I just use a body scrub. It’s just as easy.
Interesting…..I’m not sure about this.
I do wonder what inspired her to try this in the first place.
Hard pass… Can think of better ways to use a credit card!?!?!
I feel like thousands would be unhygienic
I feel like this would be unhygienic
Not sure i will try this ever.
This is weird but good timing as I’m about to cut my card up and might actually give it a try lol
let us know what you think ?
I would have never thought to use a plastic card to exfoliate skin, but I’d be willing to give it a try
Not for me. I find it a bit odd.
Yuk, this does not sound a good tip to me at all
I wonder who came up with the idea to try using their credit card for exfoliation.
Whatever works for you I suppose!
Um, no thanks. I’ll stick to my body scrub.
I haven’t heard this tip before but can’t wait to try it out!
