Our bodies all come in different shapes and sizes, not to mention with points, bumps and bends. So when it comes to shaving, it’s no surprise that the curves of our underarms, knees and ankles can make it trickier to achieve a close shave. But armed with a good razor and the right technique, you can easily learn how to manoeuvre around these sections for smooth skin all over.
KNEES
While you may think that keeping your knee straight would mean a flatter, easier shave, it’s actually best to have your knee bent. This way, the skin will be pulled tight, making it easier for your razor to glide over the area.
We recommend shaving your knee in sections, starting with a ‘C shape’ or semicircle stroke around the edges of your knee cap. Then use shorter strokes to go down the middle of your knee, starting with the base and then doing the top separately, as shown in the diagram below:
The Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor has a four-blade, flexible, pivoting head which allows it to easily glide across the curves of your body for a closer shave. As you can see in the picture, it sits comfortably on the skin and is easy to use.
ANKLES
That little bone at the end of each leg sure can be a tricky one to get around!
We find the best way is to use an ‘L shape’ manoeuvre. Starting underneath that pointy ankle bone, stroke towards the back of your ankle and then up towards your leg. That’s the ‘L shape’ completed, and now it’s just a matter of finishing the area with a few shorter strokes above the bone.
If you’re no stranger to nicking yourself in this area, we recommend trying to avoid the bone all together and focus on the surrounding skin. It’s also a good idea to opt for a razor with wire wrapped blades, like the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor, which helps to prevent careless nicks and cuts, and always remember to replace the head regularly!
UNDERARMS
With summer officially here, smooth and hair-free underarms are a must. The Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor’s solid soapy bar is great because it lathers as you shave (you literally just have to add water, no shave gel needed!), making it convenient and time-saving. It also moisturises during shaving- so even if you’re shaving frequently in summer, you know your skin is being looked after.
The key to a close shave for the underarm, is how you position your arm. An easy and comfortable way to make sure the skin is taut, is to bend your elbow and place your hand on your shoulder. If you can manage to use your fingers to pull your skin even tighter, go for it – this will create a smooth canvas for the blades to glide over. Then, using light strokes, shave your underarm both upwards and downwards (as the hair in that area tends to grow in different directions). Starting at the outer side of your armpit and working your way in will help make sure you don’t miss any spots.
