Do you look in the mirror every day and think “oh, it’s just me again”? Or find that no matter how different you try to do your make-up or hair, it always ends up looking the same? Well then, you’re in need of a makeover, my friend. And before you complain about not having the time or the money for such things, let me remind you of the good old saying “a change is as good as a holiday” – not to mention this particular makeover is SO easy, you could probably do it with your eyes closed (although it’s not recommended). So let’s get cracking, shall we? Hello, new you!
Step 1) Long-lasting mani
Let’s start with something small: your nails. If you’ve given up on DIY manicures thanks to chip after disappointing chip, it’s time to restore your faith. That perfect gel manicure that was once only achievable in-salon can now be achieved at home thanks to Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel. It has some serious chip resistance and a glossy gel-like finish that rivals a professional job. Don’t underestimate the power of a long-lasting manicure either – it has the ability to make your overall look more polished and sophisticated.
Step 2) Sun-kissed strands
Going a shade or two lighter for summer is the perfect way to brighten up your hair colour and make over your look. Normally, we’d leave highlighting to the pros, but L’Oreal Casting Sunkiss Jelly has just made it so damn easy. It’s like a gradual tanner for your hair, but instead of tanning, it makes you blonder. All you have to do is apply it to dry hair (sections for highlights or all over for a whole colour change) and then use your hair dryer, or go lay in the sun to heat-activate the formula. You don’t even have to rinse it! Plus it smells amazing and leaves the hair glossy and healthy. Every time you use it your hair will become gradually lighter, which is a lot easier and faster than a trip to the salon.
Step 3) Perfect pins
Look down at your legs. If they’re either A. hairy, B. pale, or C. dry and scaly, they’re in need of a serious transformation. Luckily, these three problems can be solved in just two easy steps. The Gilette Venus & Olay Razor takes the hassle out of shaving, so you can shed your winter coat of fuzz in a matter of minutes. Once all the hair is gone, you can treat your thirsty, ghost-like legs to a hit of moisture AND some summer colour, using Palmer’s Rapid Moisture Spray Lotion in Natural Bronze. Now go put a skirt on, girl, those legs are good to go.
Step 4) Glowing skin
Kate Hudson likes to plunge her face into ice water for glowing skin, but if you prefer a slightly less daunting solution, try this DIY facemask:
1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon baking soda
Mix all the ingredients together to form a paste. Wash your face and then pat it dry, leaving a little bit of moisture on the skin. Spread the paste on to your face using circular motions and then leave for 10 minutes. The olive oil will deeply moisturise the skin and promote elasticity, the honey will tighten pores and lock in moisture and the baking soda will act as a mild exfoliant to boost circulation and reduce redness. Rinse off with lukewarm water and enjoy the glow.
Step 5) Glamorous waves
OK, we’re nearly there! Now it’s time for a completely new hairstyle. And before you freak out about your lack of skill with a hairdryer, remember that this makeover is EASY. In fact, you don’t even need to use a hairdryer. All you need to achieve the hottest hairstyle of the season is VS Sassoon’s Deep Retro Glam. The deep triple barrel styler will turn your regular style into super-defined waves reminiscent of the 1920s. How silly these celebs were for sitting hours in a chair when this tool can achieve the exact same results in minutes.
Step 6) Do the opposite
Last but certainly not least, whatever you normally do with your make-up, do the opposite. It is really that simple. If you usually wear a bright coloured lip, switch it for a nude and focus on the eyes instead. If you always wear winged eyeliner, go without and focus on your contouring and highlighting. You may feel strange and uncomfortable at first, but often people couldn’t be more wrong about what does and doesn’t suit them and you’ll never know until you try.
