We’d like to preface this by saying, any sunscreen you apply is going to do your skin a world of favours.

The next time you’re strolling the aisles stocking up on dinner essentials for the week, we highly recommend taking yourself  to the toiletry section to suss out some sunscreens.

If you ask us, these top SPF picks deserve a spot in your basket.

NIVEA Sun UV Face Shine Control SPF50

We say: This $12.99 SPF50 formula from NIVEA will hydrate dry skin and leave you with a long-lasting matte finish, all while protecting you from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

The non-sticky formula will layer well under makeup too, leaving no trace of a white cast. It’s no wonder the Sun UV Face Shine Control SPF50 has scored itself a 4.5 star rating from our members.

You say: “It’s perfect on my combination skin. In my opinion, it has one of the best textures for a facial sunscreen in the Australian market. I’m surprised that it’s not more popular!” – jupiter, read more reviews here….

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF50+

We say: Enjoy an oil-free, fast-absorbing formula that provides silky, continuous moisture. And that’s not even the best part. The signature Hawaiian Tropic fragrance will instantly transport you to a tropical island, and it’ll only set you back $15.99.

You say: “I love this face sunscreen. I use it all the time. Smells amazing and doesn’t leave skin feeling all clogged up and greasy after using it. I apply it first and apply make up on top if i am wearing makeup that day. The scent is amazing” – mserin23, read more reviews here….

Banana Boat Everyday Sensitive SPF 50+

We say: Formulated for those with sensitive skin, this water-resistant SPF will assist in the prevention of wrinkles thanks to it’s broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

You say: “This product is seriously amazing. I have super sensitive skin.  I let all my friends and family know about this brand and product as I love sharing products like this” – trinasmakeup, read more reviews here….

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face & Body Lotion SPF50

We say: Neutrogena’s sunscreen rose to fame thanks to its super absorbent, non-comedogenic formula. The weightless consistency makes this SPF50 the perfect primer under foundation or tinted moisturiser.

You say: “This is by far my favourite facial sunscreen I’ve ever used. I’ve used it for about 4 years now and never had an issue. My skin is usually very prone to breakouts from using sunscreen on my skin as they’re often greasy or thick formulas.” – demstro, read more reviews here….

  1. Love the Banana Boat one in the blue container – formula is designed to have the sand fall off and it does! It doesn't feel like I'm wearing any sunscreen, so non greasy and love that too. The Hawaiian one is also a goodie!

  2. I don't have a favourite, I use most brands but I do look out for Made in Australia where I can. I am also concerned by the brands that have a reputation for not giving you the SPF they claim they provide…

  3. Have bought the Neutrogena one for my friend a number of times but I like the SunSense Moisturising Face SPF50+ for face and neck. If you have a tight budget and can't afford to spend much Aldi's Ombria SPF50+ Daily Defence Light Feel I found is great to use on the face too if you don't have oily skin.

  4. Well…NIvea and Neutrogena are normally pretty good but the other two I'm not so sure? What about other very reliable brands like Sunsense, Cancer Council, Cetaphil or Natio?

  5. If you're looking for a good quality sunscreen at a drugstore price, I'd definitely stick to la roche posay, their sunscreens feel super lightweight on the skin & protect it really well!
