Autumn beauty trends for the budget-conscious girl

Keeping up with trends can be a pricey habit. But luckily, when it comes to beauty, you can follow what’s ‘in fashion’ without making a huge dent in your bank account. In many cases, you can even recreate on-trend looks using products you already have. Here are some of the easiest – and cheapest! – trends we’re looking forward to trying this autumn.

#1 Doll eyes

There are two distinct eye trends at the moment: bare lashes (yes, no mascara AT ALL), and at the other end of the spectrum, doll eyes. So if skipping mascara feels like a crime, you can go the other way and apply lashings of it to your top and bottom lashes. Use the tip of your mascara to clump together the outer corners for a true doll-eyed effect. And if you’re lacking in the lashes department, experiment with some falsies.

bh recommends:  L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara, NYX Cosmetics Faux Lashes Mascara and MODELROCK Lashes Dolly Unders.

#2 Braided ponytails

Now this is a trend we’ll definitely be getting behind, especially as the weather gets windier and rainier. No one likes hair flying around their face! The best thing about this style is that you only need a few hair ties and bobby pins to pull it off. If you want to pump up the volume, go for a braided crown to add height. For those who prefer a slick look, try braiding the start of your pony, stopping at about halfway. This was a hot trend on the Kookai runway.

bh recommends: Ombrello Black Bobby Pins, and Gliders Velvet Soft Touch Elastics.

#3 Grey nails

For some reason, grey nails seem to scare a lot of people. But really, they can be just as versatile and neutral as a nude. The key is picking the right shade for your skin tone and of course, your personality. Between dark and stormy blue-greys to light greys with pink undertones, there are plenty of shades to choose from. Still not convinced? Ditch the full coverage and opt for statement tips or a coat of gold glitter polish on a feature nail.

bh recommends: OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection – Dark Side of the Mood, essie in cocktail bling and FUSE Gelnamel Glitter in Such a Laser.

#4 Subtle berry lip

Berry lip lovers, rejoice! The rich hue is still very much ‘in’ this autumn. But this time round, it’s less about creating a bold, heavily lined lip and more about applying a sheer wash of colour. It’s way easier and looks just as stunning, so swap your heavy, matte lipsticks for something a little subtler.

bh recommends: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Sweet Violet, Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Tint in Royal Plum and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Berry Couture.
