Self-love might sound a bit woo-woo, but the truth of the matter is, it’s an essential practice that we could all benefit from dedicating a little more time to.

There are no right or wrongs when it comes to practicing mindfulness or self-love. Some of us use exercise, a session with a face mask and our favourite sitcom, or calling a loved one on the phone as some allocated ‘you time’ each day as a means to show ourselves some much deserved TLC.
Self-love habits don’t need to take up much time, either, and judging from Jennifer Lopez’s latest Instagram story, her (self) love don’t cost a thing. Okay, maybe just the price of the affirmation cards she’s using, but for the sake of the song reference, roll with us.
Placed on top of her calendar (which we’d love to have a squiz at) are JLo’s three daily affirmation cards which she’s placed along side the hashtags ‘#MONDAYMOTIVATION’, ‘#AFFIRMATIONS’, and ‘#SELFLOVE.
Amongst the cards are excerpts by novelists George Eliot and Willa Cather, and without reading too much into the personal relevance of these exact quotes, we can’t help but feel they are providing our beloved Jennifer with some much needed strength and optimism post-split from fiance ARod with one of them reading “Where there is great love, there are always great miracles”. And if her successful career and enviable confidence are anything to go off, we think her motivation-sparking affirmation cards are definitely working…

What do you do to practice self-love?
Good to know that even mega stars need motivational aids!
Like the fact that JLo practices self love and positive affirmations shows that she’s human and keeps herself grounded and motivated
Practicing mindfulness helped me so much since last year after the uncertainty and especially after seeing my parents and not knowing when I will see them again.
Everyone has their own thing. She is a fabulous entertainer.
Jennifer Lopez such an amazing Woman and using Motivational Cards to help her stay Positive is Fabulous.
Never thought of that “self-love” thing that we need to do something about it. It is natural thing to me.
Positive affirmations are very important to me sometimes its all that can get me through a tough day.
Such a great idea!
Love to hear from jlo
I try to focus on the positive things in my life to help divert my attention from the negative things going on in my life
Im just a positive person in general. Mum raised me this way.
After a major (and permanent) health scare in my forties I have learned to make sure I have ‘me’ time and don’t feel guilty for it. I also turned pescatarian (sort of like vegan but + fish and + egg white) and reduced my white sugar intake dramatically. I now walk my dog every single day – even in the rain with an umbrella! I took up swimming and slowed down on how much I get done in a day and don’t right myself off if I don’t tick off everything on my list.
Main thing is take care of myself and have regular me time
I need to think more positive thoughts. I like to walk on my own for some me time .
I don’t practice anything specific like this.
Affirmations don’t work for me. I try to focus on the big picture in order to keep things in perspective.
Me time is important.
I try to think positive thoughts, and I try to exercise daily.
Sometimes I don’t get much me time and that usually leaves me grumpy. It might be that I’m looking forward to reading a book or doing some crochet but the thought of sitting down and doing those things gets me through a long day,
This isn’t really my sort of thing, a bit tacky. I just try and avoid self-hate
My me time is when at the end of the night (if I have any energy left) is watching my fav TV show at the time or reading a mag.
I tried affirmation cards years ago. It doesn’t work for me. I have a Goal Card in my bathroom vanity. It reminds me of this year’s goal to achieve. I have a Life Reminder Card to remind me to ‘Create a simpler life to make space for the things I enjoy’.
Great idea for me I just do face masks on myself while watching tv trying everyday to be more positive and not put too much pressure on myself.
For me it’s spending time to do a sheet mask
I prefer to listen to music and/or slap on a sheet mask. Working my way through my ridiculously complicated skincare routine day and night helps me practice self-care and instils self-discipline.
PREACH!
I love affirmations. I need to follow her lead. Thats a great idea puting them on her calendar
Love this!! I’m all for self care and even better if it’s the woo woo stuff hehe. I’m all for affirmations, journaling and of course anything that involves a beauty ritual 🙂
Self care is so important. Good to see a celebrity promoting it cause everyone should try to do it. Even if its having a cup of tea while listening to the birds outside each day!
Thank you! =)
Perfect comment and mantra, Miss19. Well said.
I’m on the same boat. Those over complicated routines help me practise self care, and also help me get through my stash (slowly but steadily) 🙂 And you are right, there’s a lot of self-discipline in there which I did not consciously think about
