Here at bh we’re all about empowerment and confidence, but like everyone, there are times when life just gets us down! Whether we’re feeling unwell, a little stressed out or are going through a life change, sometimes we simply need a confidence boost. Check out how we (and you) can use beauty to do just that…
When you’re under the weather
It’s hard to feel glamorous, confident or optimistic when you’re unwell. There’s nothing pretty about a runny nose, fever and cold sweats, am I right? If you’re anything like me, you prefer to ride it out from your bed, but sometimes work and life doesn’t stop. If that’s the case, why not try…

When you’re stressed
As unfortunate as it is, many of us experience stress on the reg. However, how it affects you can vary whether it be breakouts (the WORST!), headaches or mood swings. To combat these symptoms and get a confident spring back in your step, I recommend getting a massage to release any tension in your body caused by stress (there are places like Massage Envy that even customise your massage – cool huh?). When you’re going through a major life change
This is a classic, right? Like when you go through a breakup and chop all your hair off, or start a new job and try a brand new make-up look. There’s something about changing your look that screams new beginnings. VS Sassoon Expert and 2016 AHFA Hairdresser of the Year, Mary Alamine explains, “Let’s face it, when [us] women feel down and want a little confidence booster, the first place we go is the hairdresser for a new look, because when we look good we feel good!” Experimenting at home can be just as rewarding. We recommend…

When you’re in a rut
Experimenting with your beauty is a great remedy for getting out of a rut, especially when it comes to make-up. Gilded Cage Cosmetics founder Rhys Williams sums it up perfectly: “Make-up is what you make of it. It allows you to feel confident in yourself, to feel beautiful within yourself and be whatever you want to be.” Try a new look with…

When you’re feeling your age
“Self-esteem is fluid and ever-changing. As we age, it is imperative we remain mindful of the importance of our own self-confidence,” explains NIVEA Skincare Expert Robyn Hutch. “More often than not, youth is associated with beauty, and once a woman reaches a certain age she can feel less confident about her appearance.” To combat this, Robyn believes it’s all about taking care of your skin “from your face and body right down to your feet, [as well as your] lips and hands”. Why not try…

How do you use beauty to boost your confidence? Do you have any other go-tos?
When I have a bath with a lush bath bomb I try to choose one that has relaxing properties such as lavender and magnesium . Works a treat.
When I’m stressed or get a headache brought on by it , I try to rest – I put some peppermint oil in my diffuser and it relaxes me greatly.
