Health benefits of sleeping naked
1. Boosts sleep quality
A cooler body temp is essential for falling asleep soundly and removing layers of clothing is an easy way to drop degrees. Researchers at the University of Amsterdam found that lowering skin temperature reduces the number of times you wake up through out the night and increases the depth of your slumber. And the evidence is endless when it comes to the correlation between quality sleep and overall health. Getting seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night results in the reduction of stress, inflammation, mental illness and risk of developing cancer, diabetes and heart disease, while improving your memory, productivity, immune system, and weight loss.
2. Increases male fertility
A recent study – published in the journal Human Reproduction – found that men who wore tight-fitting underwear had a lower sperm count than those who didn’t. This also comes down to body temperature. Sperm production is significantly affected by heat exposure, this is why testicles stay around four to six degrees cooler by hanging below the body. So sleeping without underwear could significantly help your swimmers.
3. Leads to more sex
One of the biggest benefits of sleeping nude when you’re coupled up is more sex. Research has found that naked sleepers have significantly more sex than their clothed counterparts. On a basic level it makes sense – with all your bits out there’s more opportunity for, ahem, connection. But it’s actually more than that. A study determined that skin-to-skin contact between adults stimulates the release of oxytocin, which can help build attachment and affection between partners.
4. Improves self-esteem
If you’re feeling down about your bod, getting in tune with it sans clothing can actually help. A study found that spending time naked helped boost self-esteem and body image.
5. Speeds up your metabolism
A study conducted by the U.S. National Institutes of Health discovered that keeping yourself cool while you sleep can boost your metabolism. This is because your body produces more brown fat to keep you warm, which produces heat by burning calories. The easiest way to cool down in bed? Take your kit off, of course.
