Have you ever tried to cut pasta from your diet in an effort to be healthier? You start doing all the right things, like eating kale, drinking apple cider vinegar and trying to get your daily intake of LSA, but the whole time you’re just wishing you could tuck into a giant bowl of spaghetti instead. Sound familiar?
Well, that may all be about to change…
A study has discovered the most glorious information: pasta consumption is associated with a decrease in Body Mass Index (BMI) and a reduced likelihood of obesity!
In fact, researchers explained that banning pasta from your diet is not the correct attitude to have at all.

The study was undertaken in Pozzilli, Italy (where else?!) by the Department of Epidemiology at the Institute for Research, Hospitalisation, and Health Care Neuromed. In the study, the eating habits of 23,000 people were analysed.
In particular, the research looked into the Mediterranean diet which many studies have previously concluded as one of the healthiest nutritional regimens. However, very little attention had previously been paid to the fundamental component of pasta in this diet.

George Pounis, the first author of the paper explained their findings further.
“We have seen that consumption of pasta, contrary to what many think, is not associated with an increase in body weight, rather the opposite,” he said. “Our data show that enjoying pasta according to individual’s needs contributes to a healthy body mass index, lower waist circumference and better waist-hip ratio.”

Now, we were hoping this was license to stuff our faces with ravioli and lasagna all day (for ‘health reasons’) but alas, the researchers have insisted that moderation is still key.Regardless, this is exciting news for all the pasta-lovers out there. Add those carbs back into your diet ASAP!
