Natural deodorants have been around for a long time, but choosing the best one for you can be confusing.
Like regular deodorant, natural deodorants come in a variety of forms, including roll-on, stick, paste and spray formulas – but what sets them apart?
We spoke to Dee Zibara, founder and director of online female health empowerment clinic, Cell to Soul, to find out…

Natural deodorants don’t contain aluminium
According to Dee, the key difference between natural deodorants and more mainstream formulas is the former don’t contain aluminium.
So, rather than acting as antiperspirants, they focus on absorbing wetness and neutralising odour. “Natural mineral salts” are often used instead of aluminium, along with other natural ingredients like “lime juice, coconut oil and witch hazel”.

Natural deodorants can help sensitive skin
Is your skin sensitive? Your daily deodorant spritz may be making it worse. As Dee explains, “sensitive skin is more often than not caused by over-exposure to synthetic chemicals and xenoestrogens (bad oestrogens) in the first place”. That means switching to a natural deodorant may “actually fix the issue” over time. She recommends those with sensitive skin go for a natural deodorant that’s free from bi-carb to reduce the chance of irritation.

Your next beauty project: DIY natural deodorant
If you’re feeling creative, you might want to experiment with a DIY natural deodorant. Dee makes her own mixture at home using a body spray, the juice of two organic limes and two drops of tea tree oil. The expert pours the lime juice and tea tree oil into her body spray bottle for better strength and scent.
According to Dee, a DIY natural deodorant “is a great way to increase the longevity of what can sometimes be more costly products”. Plus, “you can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oils this way to alter the smell to your liking,” she says.
The bottom line? Whether you buy it in-store or try your hand at DIY, even the most hardcore yogis can smell fresh and fabulous with natural deodorant!

Have you tried natural deodorant? Would you ever make your own DIY deodorant?
I’ve tried the Eco Tan one and found it worked well. It’s a trial and error process. But know there’s a detox process, a clay mask can help speed it up.
Exercise and natural deodorant don’t work.
Would love to give it a go.
I want to like a natural deodorant SO MUCH but it just doesn’t work for me!
