They say that sharing is caring, so if you have shortcuts and handy hints that you simply can’t go without, you’d do well to share them with your fellow fanatics…
So we’d like to give a huge thank you to everyone who submitted a beauty tip or trick that works for them – without these submissions, I’d have no idea that oranges can help to whiten teeth or that frosty foundation can be a godsend.
Hint: If your tip has been bolded, then you’ll be scoring a $100 beauty basket to thank you for your brilliance.

Make-up

“Delve into your Nana’s make-up case…with years of ‘tried and tested’ experience it will contain only the very best!” – jackstar32

“Want perfect coverage? Apply foundation first and then your concealer. Foundation will hide about 75 per cent of all the discolorations you see on a bare face. Then just go in with concealers on the most obvious. You save time and product this way.” – Darbs73

“If you find applying mascara messy and smudgy, you can use a business card (or even cut out your own) to shield your lid by placing it behind your lashes and applying mascara at the same time. It also makes it easier to catch every lash with your mascara wand.” – Kay n Jay

“Outline lips (if you want to) then fill in lips with lipstick from your finger or a cotton bud. If you want, you can pat on a little gloss. The colour stays on longer, you use way less lipstick as you’re not blotting it all over a tissue and you just have a lovely lip colour rather than a thick slick on your lips. You can build the colour up or have a subtle effect.” – lbartley

“Don’t just apply mascara on the tips of your eyelashes. Start at the base/root of your lashes and give it a good wiggle all the way through. This separates and lengthens your eyelashes even more!” – Veronicaa

“If you have to pull a dress or top over your head after applying make-up and styling your hair, put a soft scarf over your head first.  This will ensure that no make-up smears on your clothes and that any zips/buttons etc. don’t get caught and pull on your hair.” – ants

“I have been a convert of Clear Eyes to brighten eyes before applying make-up. It is also handy to use on blemishes or broken capillaries to reduce redness before an important event.” – Farryn

“Use dark eye shadow wet to replace eyeliner or mascara. Wet the tip of the eye shadow brush, dip it in the black shadow and swirl it around gently, then carefully line your eyes and colour your lashes with it. It works very effectively. Good for people who don’t like to use mascara or are allergic to it. Much smoother too – without the clumps!” – nicolaharvey

“Want eye shadow to be picture perfect all day? Get in the habit of applying foundation on your eyelids first, then apply your eye shadows. When done, lightly mist water over eyes to set. Let dry. Then apply the rest of your foundation and make-up as usual. ”¨By doing the eyes first, you save precious minutes by not having to clean up your fly away eye shadow powders.” – Darbs73

“Keep your foundation in the fridge in summer – it feels gorgeous going on and doesn’t look and feel greasy.” – Prosperity

“Always keep cotton buds in your make-up kit. With a little bit of moisturiser, even without, you can gently twirl the head of the cotton bud under your eye lashes or under your eyebrow to carefully clean up make-up blunders.  Simply twist the cotton bud to collect excess mascara blobs or marks on your eye shadow without having to correct the whole area.  I use it all the time to make eyelashes look less clumpy.” – Kelliebub

“Walk into a spray of hairspray to ‘set’ your make-up (don’t spray it directly on your face!)” – Mummafletch

“When using false eyelashes, forget the fiddly individual ones and get the cheaper stick ons. Cut one in half and apply them to the outer corner of the eye first working inwards. They don’t reach all the way to inner corner of the eye but you don’t want them to (looks fake). Then do the same with other half of lash on other eye. (You’ll get two uses out one set of lashes!!)” – Eviesmum

“Stop clumpy spider eyes by using the “stop, dot and roll” technique. After pulling the wand out of the tube, STOP. Then DOT the tip of the brush on to a tissue to blot off any excess product. Next, ROLL the brush lightly on the tissue a couple of times to remove any “globs” from the sides. Then you apply the mascara as normal but it will be delightfully free of clumps and smudges!” – HMad

“Blush is a sure fire way to look five years younger, instantly. How? With the right colour. Look for the most natural flush colour you can find. Trick: Apply blush on the inside of your wrist. If it looks natural here, it will look natural on your cheeks.” – Darbs73

“Everyone I meet comments on just how perfect I seem to get my eyeliner, and the reason for this is because I use ear buds. Start with a big smear on your lid then simply moisten the ear bud and wipe in a quick line to create the perfect line.” – nmccormick

“My best beauty secret is to always have blotters with you as no matter how well your make-up is applied, a sweaty face doesn’t look good.” – Adikted

“The best tip I have is to never put blush below the nose line on your face – keeping blush on the cheeks, close to the eye gives the face a perfect lift!” – andrewcaitlin

“Want to add more definition to brows but no eyebrow pencil left? A quick fix to this can with a small brush or even cotton tip dab some in eye shadow similar to you eyebrow colour (works best with brunette or black eyebrows) and blend into the brows to add definition.” – Livi92

“My beauty tip came about when I couldn’t find my eyeliner, I used the tip of my mascara brush as eyeliner for the top of my eyelids, I found not only does it look great, it doesn’t smudge, is waterproof and lasts all day!” – Melkey

“When travelling light I use my lipstick as a blusher on my cheeks which blends in smoothly and also colour matches my lips.” – mviero

“The only way I can ever get my mascara on right without clumping is to apply as usual from under and over lashes, and then comb out with an old empty mascara wand. Perfect every time!” – Kerrieberry

“We all know about lining the bottom inner rim with white to brighten the eyes, I’ve gone one step further!”¨After applying my foundation and powder I use the white pencil (currently using Rimmel, it’s super soft) to ‘colour in’ the area from my lash line to the top of my eye lid from the inner corner to around a third of the way across, I then apply my usual eye make-up – it ends up blending in well with my eye shadow and not looking ‘obviously white’ but really brightens my eyes up and makes me look wide awake!” – Abby

“To get Model length lashes I apply mascara to the tops of my lashes and then I apply it underneath as well. It works a treat!!” – Lara11
